Walk In Constant Victory Over Fear (8 Jan 2017)

Pastor Joseph Prince (3rd service on 2nd service playback)

The opposition against this message was strong. But praise God, God comes through always!

Remember how the year of Jubilee started - it started out with challenges / problems / difficulties (i.e. Israel was surrounded by enemies) but out of that jubilee came
The jubilee victory that we shall receive far overwhelms the difficulties faced

-----
Recap last week
AD 70 to 1917 - Israel under the feet of Gentiles. Even though they were sinning, they were still offering blood sacrifices yearly on the Day of Atonement that covered their sins, so in a sense things were still “okay". Today, all our sins are remitted (not just covered) by blood of Jesus once and for all.

1917 - General Allenby rode into and liberated Jerusalem supernaturally. Armistice was signed exactly 11 months after on 11 Nov at 11am, thus marking the 11th hour generation. That's us - the most blessed and privileged generation. Call was also made for Jews to return to their homeland, but it was not heeded.

Every 50 years, God makes a call for Jews to return. So 50 years later is 1967 - Israel becomes a nation including whole of Jerusalem in the 6 day war like Joshua and walls of Jericho.

And another 50 years later is 2017!
-----

Sermon proper
Lev 25:9-10
Day of atonement = Yom Kippur day
Trumpet is sounded only after the sin offering = freedom is based on the blood of the sin offering
Jubilee means every debt canceled, every slave set free, every land returned to original owners

Isaiah 61 / Luke 4:17-21
Acceptable year of the Lord = dektos year = the free favours of God profusely abound
There will be troubles and difficulties, but those won't abound
Even if you are faced with difficulties, expect the free favours of God to profusely abound!

Lev 27
When you buy land, you will pay in proportion to the year of jubilee
E.g. if you buy 40 years before jubilee = more expensive
if you buy 10 years before jubilee = less expensive because the end will go back to the original owner

-----
This means the rapture will happen very soon
This generation will not pass away until these things are fulfilled (Matt 24:34)
No one knows the day or hour but of the times and seasons we will know (Matt 24:36). The season is now!
1/3 of earth population will be killed (Rev 9:18) but we'll be gone before then

Old Israel custom is that the bride won't know the exact day when bridegroom will come to get the bride but will know the season bcos she needs to get ready. Same, we see the day approaching already

Rapture is not second coming of Christ
Antichrist will come from the revive Roman empire (which is likely Europe) but Jesus will come, defeat him and establish millennium
We won't go through the tribulation, we'll be raptured away first

Rapture = believers receiving final possession that Jesus died to give us - a new body like Jesus when He rose from the dead. It's matter but it can transcend walls, never sick, never grow old
We believe God for healing here now still but we look forward to the new body
-----

First area of freedom / jubilee God wants to manifest in our lives = freedom from fear of death

Heb 2:14-16
V15 All fears go down to the fear of death
E.g. Fear of flying
E.g. Fear is operations

V15 If you have a fear of death, you are subject to bondage for a lifetime

Q1) Why does fear of death mean bondage?
Q2) Why does devil have power of death?
Q3) How did Jesus destroy the devil when he’s still around?
Q4) Who did Jesus do this for?

V16 This promise is for the seed of Abraham. That's me - those who believe in Christ (Gal 3:29)
[Note: this answers Q4) Who did Jesus do this for? Me ans: us who are in Christ]
Mainly refers to OT saints who feared death bcos they didn't know about redemption yet, but also for those now who still have this fear

Beyond death's door by Dr. Maurice Rawlings

As a believer, death does not exist for us bcos Jesus conquered death when He rose from the dead bodily. For us, “death” is really just falling asleep. (1 Cor 15:51)
We look forward to rapture, not death. If Jesus tarries, we look forward to falling asleep and then rapture.
Sentences like “everyone dies” is not scriptural.
For us the 11th hour generation, it’s very likely we won't know what it means to die

Jesus came as a man for one purpose = to die. Why? Bcos as God He cannot die but as man He can, and through death He destroys the devil who had the power of death.

Long before man was created, God created angels with governments / hierarchy
There are low level angels and high level ones. Same for demons (ex angels) - there is hierarchy in the spiritual kingdom
Top angels = cherub (singular) / cherubim (plural). Not a baby cupid angel.
There were 3 top angels = Gabriel, Michael and lucifer

Isaiah 14:12-15
V12, 14 lucifer used to be a cherub but wanted to usurp God’s throne
V13 stars of God = angels

-----
Wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) Sickness and growing old is but death began

No such thing as God vs science as if they’re opposing beliefs
Science is moving and evolving, only to meet up with where the Bible was already
Don't build your life on something that still evolves. Our life is too precious to be built on conjectures. Let it be built on certainties
-----

Ezekiel 28:14-15
Another depiction of the devil

Tyre was the NY of those days
Prophet was told to speak to prince of Tyre = ruler of Tyre (V2)
But half way it became king of Tyre instead = spirit being behind = devil (V12)

V14 devil is described as "the anointed cherub who covers". What does that phrase mean? Cover what?

Exodus 25:20
In the ark, the cherubim covers the mercy seat with their wings

Pastor Prince believes there were 3 cherubim initially bcos God works in 3s.
God = Father, Son, Holy Spirit
Time = past, present, future
Me = spirit, soul, body
Cherubim = Michael, Gabriel, lucifer (but fallen)

-----
When Mary looked into the empty tomb after Jesus rose from the dead, she saw 2 angels at head and foot looking down = she saw the real ark of the covenant. Likely Michael and Gabriel (highest angels) for something so important

Many accounts and videos even of super natural intervention.
Angels are real and keep charge over us (Ps 91:11)
-----

Ezekiel 28:14-15
V14 anointed cherub who covers what? The mercy seat
i.e. they are guardians of God's holiness and righteousness

Many people say lucifer was the angel in charge of worship bcos inside him were instruments / pipes & timbrels. Actually all angels worship God and Bible describes him as cherub who covers the mercy seat

V14 devil’s function = walked back and forth

What is the work of the devil?
A) Causing red light district problems, drugs etc? That's actually just the work of the low level demons
B) Making people believe in holiness but through man's effort and nothing about Jesus - that's the real work of the devil

Devil does not accept the fact that's he's fallen. He still wants to usurp God's throne. He was created with anointing and gifts to defend God's holiness and righteousness and he still does that today but in a perverted way.

How? "You are a sinner, how can you expect God's blessings.” etc etc.
He glorifies morality, human doings, even righteousness but of works not of faith (2 Cor 11:14), and based on pride (I will ascend above God etc)

-----
Jesus took 7 steps down (??), and God gave Him 7 steps up = name above every other name (Phil 2:9)
When you humble yourself, God will exalt you

Ezekiel 28:16
V16 by the multitude of your trafficking
traffic root word = slander i.e. he slandered God by getting 1/3 of angels to follow him and these became demons
e.g. pain jumping to other parts of body. That’s caused by spirits

Like David's son Absalom (who died young)
Flawless from head to toe but went against his father & deliberately stole hearts of people to become king (2 Sam 15)
What spirit was that? lucifer
-----

V14 walked back and forth = walking around enforcing God's holiness making sure no one fell short (see Job 1:7-8 below)
Devil still thinks he's the custodian of God's holiness. That was his original purpose as the cherub who covers

Job 1:7-8
V6 angels present themselves to God
V7 satan walking back and forth on the earth = I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm looking out who is righteous and who isn't so that I can enforce what you said at the garden "the day you eat from the tree dying you shall die" (i.e. not immediate death)
[Note: this answers Q2) Why does devil have power of death? Me ans: bcos that was his original function]
satan is still doing what he's supposed to be doing as the guardian of the mercy seat but his motive is God’s throne
Also means that the devil is not omnipresent to disturb you

God didn’t ask the question bcos He didn’t know the answer
God knew devil already ’targetted' Job bcos Job was very “I” focused ("I have done this and that" etc). The spirit was behind there already

Ezekiel 28:15-16
V15 He was perfect until iniquity/sin was found in him
What's his sin? That he wanted to take God's throne and be God
V16 He was cast out of heaven and went to earth

-----
God told Adam "replenish the earth” i.e. there was life there previously but now no more
Earth as without form and void (Gen 1:2), but God doesn’t create things that are void
i.e. there was life previously but was wiped out and earth was devil’s “home ground”

Man was made a little lower than Elohim (Ps 8:5)
Elohim usually refers to God, but here it’s angels
-----

How can devil usurp God’s throne?
Ps 89:14
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of God's throne
If God ever does something that is unrighteous and injustice, God's throne is gone

Devil thought he can usurp the throne on this basis, that’s why he’s trying very hard to make God do smh unrighteous / injustice

Me: on the same basis, God is righteous in making me ____ (righteous, blessed, forgiven) today. And if God ever ever ever stops making me ____, He would be unrighteous in doing that and would lose His throne. So, because God is still on His throne today, I CAN HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE THAT I AM ____ IN CHRIST and that GOD WILL ALWAYS SEE ME ____ IN CHRIST!

Heb 2:14-16
V16 does not give aid to angels = fallen angels
Jesus didn't die for the fallen angels but He died for me! So it's obvious God loves us so much!
So devil now attacks man to try and get God to do smth unrighteous /injustice so that God will lose His throne

Ps 89:14
Mercy and truth go before God’s face
God delights in mercy (hersed = grace) and truth (emeth) = God delights in Jesus
Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17)
God loves mercy but He can't exercise it at the expense of righteousness or justice cos that's the foundation of His throne
So devil is trying to get God to lean on one side and do smth to compromise that will jeopardise His throne

-----
Love mercy (grace) but do justice (Micah 6:8), don't love justice and do justice
When smth is wrong, address it but your heart must be for mercy
-----

Story 1: Love powerless against law
Daniel 6:7-16
V7 all = made king think that Daniel was part of the plan too
When pple say everybody says this, don't worry it's not actually everybody

V14 King was greatly displeased with himself not with Daniel. He was upset that he fell into the trap

King Darius (God) and Daniel (us) and others (devil)
Law = wicked law by man
Guilty person = Daniel = godly man

On one side, love & mercy = Darius doesn’t want Daniel to be punished
On the other side, righteousness & justice = Darius has signed the law that cannot be revoked

Parallel = devil trying to put God in a dilemma (throne vs man, righteousness vs mercy), knowing that God loves us very much

Story 2: Law powerless against love
John 8:4-12

Jesus (God) and the woman (us) and Pharisees (devil)
Law = spiritual Moses law by God. Holy, righteous and just law
Guilty person = woman caught in adultery = sinner

On one side, love & mercy = Jesus loves woman (hence don’t stone but that's not righteous)
On the other side, righteousness & justice = woman has broken the law (hence stone but that's not loving)

The people who brought the woman were against Jesus not the woman, otherwise they would have stoned her already. No need to bring her to Him.
Same for us, devil's target is not us but God cos he wants to see how God can be righteous but still love us

How did Jesus handle the “dilemma”?
Jesus never answered them. He always had time, never hurried
He wrote on the ground / stone = “you presume to tell me about the law when I wrote it”
His answer = “he without sin, let him throw the first stone” = mercy but not at any expense of justice

Lesson for us = never rush to give an answer / be hasty. Don't make decisions based on convenience or time. If I need to decide now, then I'm not deciding. The one who doesn't need to rush, wins.
If you feel pushed / driven, it's the devil. Usually pressure from the outside.
If you are led, that's the Holy Spirit. A still small voice leading from the inside.

-----
Devil = accuser of the brethren (Rev 12:10), he plays with your conscience

No condemnation on a righteous foundation enables us to sin no more
It’s not no sin first then no condemnation
It’s also not no condemnation, so go and lead your life anyhow

V12 Jesus spoke to them again. But didn’t everyone already leave after He said “he who is without sin let him throw the first stone”?
V11 & V12 there's a gap. They left, He ministered to the woman alone first, then He went to where they were and that's V12 where He said He's the light
Man in the natural is afraid of God’s light bcos instinct tell us we are darkness and His light will show our sinful we are
But for us in Christ, His light is not to show how sinful we are but to show the perfection of His work in our life to remove all our sins on a righteous foundation

V12 shall not = oume = never ever
i.e. it is not possible for a true believer to ever walk in darkness

1 John 1:7 tell us where we’re walking (in the light) not how to walk
As a believer, we’re always walking in the light even if we turn our backs on God for a while or occasional sin, God’s light is still shining on us to say wow! what a perfect work by God!
-----

So how did Jesus let the woman go without compromising His righteousness?
Romans 3:24-26
V25 propitiation = mercy seat of ark
I.e. God set Jesus as the mercy seat by His blood

For every sin committed before Jesus died, He was able to seemingly pass over their sins/work miracles/blessings because He would pay for every one of those sins at the cross
Like a visa card payment with the actual payment at the cross where His blood was shed - blood allowed God to forgive/heal us righteously

Healing/blessing is now a righteous thing for God to do!

V26 God demonstrates His righteousness by passing over our sins

Me: remember earlier revelation above! (in blue)

People are afraid bcos they think their failure/sins are going to come catch up with them. And the devil bases his accusations on truth. You did fail, yes, so don’t deny it. But go 1 step further! The next truth is that God still blesses me and righteously, even though I committed those sins bcos they were paid on the cross

Heb 2:14
Jesus destroyed (= katargeo = to nullify / deprive) the devil
Not that the devil dies, but that Jesus deprived the devil of the power of death

How? By paying for it at the cross
E.g. U are behind bars waiting for death bcos of a sin u committed but someone (Jesus) died in ur place as u and judge (God) accepts that. Now, if u accept this substitution, u are free.
I'm not free bcos the sentence is not executed and I ran away, but i’m free bcos it was executed!
So now devil can't threaten u with death bcos Jesus alrdy took ur death!
[Note: this answers Q3) How did Jesus destroy the devil when he’s still around? Me ans: by depriving him of the power of death, through the cross]

If you don’t know what happened at the cross (i.e. Jesus already took your punishment & death), you will still fear the devil / his threats about punishment & death

Isaiah 54:17
Every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall condemn
So now, tables have been turned!
When devil tries to accuse you, his accusations are false and you can righteously report him for his nonsense. he is now the guilty one for trying to frame you

Most honouring thing I can do, is say I am the righteousness of God in Christ
Otherwise, if you say/feel “i’m so sinful, God may not hear me bcos I’ve done so many bad things” u are questioning the sacrifice of Jesus which is such an insult as if Jesus is not enough

Wisdom of God is demonstrated through the cross in that the 2 opposing sides kissed (righteousness & justice vs mercy & truth) and so His love & law can perfectly co-exist / one is no longer powerless against the other

For healing, say first “I’m the righteousness of God in Christ” then “by His stripes I am healed” bcos the foundation for healing is that you’re righteous in Christ

[Note: overall, this answers Q1) Why does fear of death mean bondage? Me ans: bcos fear of death means you don’t believe Jesus has paid for your death at the cross. Deeper than that, it means you don’t accept Jesus' payment for you for everything at the cross which exposes you to the accusations of the devil]

Vision Sunday - Jesus Our Jubilee (1 Jan 2017)

Pastor Joseph Prince (2nd service live)

With God we can look forward with great expectations of hope and good in our future
God has gone ahead of my 2017, prepared the way, and now comes back to me and says, "Come, take My hand, let's go."

Old covenant is by law. If you do this, God will do this, and led by the hand.
Our new covenant is by grace, not dependent on our performance, and led from the heart (I'll write it on their hearts. Jer 31:33). More intimate.

God uses things as visual aids for His people. For example, Passover where blood of lamb is put on doorpost and lintel (forming cross) and the angel of death will pass over and will not allow destroyer to enter the house. This is a visual aid of Jesus - died on Passover, rose on Feast of First Fruits.

Jesus was born on Feast of Tabernacles. (Word was made flesh and dwelt = tabernacled amongst us. John 1:14)

Why is there a theme of the year?
1) God tells us things ahead of time so that when it happens, we know it's God & give Him the glory.
2) We thank God for His protection that we know about, but we also thank God for His protection that we didn't know about.
3) Theme also means that this is the truth that God is emphasising this year. It doesn't mean this theme isn't observed in other years or that other years' themes are gone and no longer.

-----
Recap 2016 theme where Pastor mentioned 3 items on the Sunday after Vision Sunday. Don't expect God to reveal everything at one time. He reveals when the time is right.
Blood = terror in Niece, France in 2016
Fire = Israel had the worst bush fire in 2016
Flood = real floods in 2016

God loves the entire world, but God chose Israel as the example to demonstrate what a good god God is. Israel failed in her purpose bcos she rejected God, but His covenant with them still stands.
God's attention on Israel is on pause (bcos of their rejection of God) while God saves us Gentiles (saved as individuals, not as a nation). But it's only temporary. God is coming back for them.

Israel in captivity is God's discipline. If they don't want to be an example of God's goodness, then they will be an example of His righteousness.

So Israel is ruled by Gentiles instead of by God since they rejected God.
Recap Daniel's vision of the statue - Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar), Middle Persia, Greece (Alexander the great), Romans, Clay governance, Rock not cut by human hands that will smash the statue and all the Gentile reign will end = Jesus returning to rule the whole earth from Israel after the 7 years of tribulation

Rapture = Jesus' coming and for believers, a brand new body that doesn't grow old/sick/die but always healthy forever. That's the only thing left for us / final inheritance. We have everything else that Jesus died to give us now.

Gregorian calendar now = 2017 = year of victory
Hebrew calendar now = 5777 = year of rest and completion

Rev 13:18
Number of the antichrist is 666
Eg. 666 marked Goliath = 600 shekels spear (weight), 6 pieces of armour, 6 cubits (height)
6 = man
666 = extreme flesh possessed by devil

10 toes of statue (European Nations?) from there will come a leader promising false peace, signs and wonders = antichrist
-----

2017, the year of Jubilee!

Lev 25:8-10
V10 Jubilee = freedom, cancellation of debt, all land that you sold bcos you needed money will be restored to the original owners

Each of you shall return to his possession (e.g. health, absentee family member)
Each of you shall return to his family (e.g. God is going to do smth to ur family life)

Jubilee = rest of all rests, sabbath of all sabbaths; also restoration

V8, 9
God is an excellent mathematician and He likes the number 7 but it's not numerology

Eg. The 7 sevens in revelation (7 spirits of God, churches, angels, trumpets, vials, doom, seals )
Eg. Israel rests their land on the 7th year. 6th year is of super abundance so that they have more than enough and can rest on the 7th year. Some think that hey, if 6th is super abundant, 7th will be even greater so they choose to work and not rest on the 7th. But no.
Eg. Our body works on a 7 day, 7 week, 7 year cycle. God renews our youth every 7 years. Find one day of rest in a week to just vegetate!
Eg. Other examples (hen on egg, baby in womb, notes in musical scale, colours of a rainbow)
Eg. Jesus on the cross spoke exactly 7 words

Gen 2:1-3
V2 First time 7 appears in the Bible
Context is about the work is ended, completed and God rested
7 = perfection, completion, rest bcos it was finished

V4 First mention of holiness (sanctification) is tied up with rest
God blessed the 7th day and sanctified it
True holiness is learning to rest in Christ and the finished work

Numbers in the Bible
1 = Unity
2 = Testimony
3 = Resurrection
4 = Earth (wind, corners, soils)
5 = Grace
6 = Man
7 = Perfection / completion
17 = victory (e.g. God called Joseph when he as 17 yo; cast ur net on the right side and 153 large fishes caught = 1 + 2+ … + 17 = 153 = victory)

History fulfilled just like how Jesus described:
AD 70 to 1917 - Israel under the feet of Gentiles

1917 - Jerusalem was liberated by General Allenby supernaturally (no shots fired)
Armistice ending WW1 was signed exactly 11 months after that at 11am on 11 Nov = everyone after this date is the 11th hour generation. That’s us!
General Allenby asked all Jews to return to their homeland but they didn’t. i.e. Israel was given a chance to receive Jesus but they didn’t. (1917 was also a Jubilee year)

50 years later, 1967 - Israel became a nation in the 6 day war even though they were outnumbered and took over more land than they had previously (including East Jerusalem)
All of Jerusalem now no longer under the feet of Gentiles
6 day war is the same as Joshua and walls of Jericho. A repeat of history!

50 years later, 2017 - Smth powerful and good is going to happen like 1967!
But remember, they were surrounded by enemies (sickness, difficulties, troubles etc) first. We see the victory now, but it started with a challenge.
If you’re in a challenge right now, rejoice for your victory has just began!

Jubilee happens on 50th year on the day of atonement (10th day of 7th month = 29 Sept 2017), after sin offering is offered, trumpet is blown to signal Jubilee
Chains are broken = set free from bondage (to medicine, drugs, depression, fear, unclean habits etc), every debt canceled

Gal 5:1
Freest people are those that Christ has set free
Some people step into freedom, unaccustomed to it, and go back into darkness bcos they've become comfortable in it. Keep praying for them

How did they conquer Jericho? No one talks, just keep blowing the trumpet, on 7th day go round 7 times and then shout! And walls fell flat.

What does this mean for us today? The wall (bondage etc) won't come down by human effort or intelligence. Those are too weak to fight the bondage. But it will come down by the almighty hand of God

-----
Gen 6:8-9
v8 5th time Noah's name mentioned = Grace
v9 7th time Noah's name mentioned = Perfect

Israel is told to rest her land on the 7th year
Our bodies came from dust, that's why we need to let our bodies rest too
The real me is spirit breathed / came from the breadth of God

Israel never observed the year of rest or jubilee. There's no mention of it in the bible. They even lost track of when is jubilee until Jesus came and read the scroll to be read which “happened" to be the year of jubilee.

Luke 4:17-21
Jesus reads here and He came in the year of Jubilee!
  • Good news to the poor = your debt is canceled supernaturally by God. Not you stop paying.
  • Heal the broken hearted = special anointing this year for broken hearts.
  • Proclaim liberty to the captives = whatever bound by, He comes to proclaim freedom (Isaiah 61 proclaim liberty = proclaim jubilee)
  • Recovery of sight to blind = not just physical, but also things of God beyond human mind that God hid away (Matt 11:25)
  • Set at liberty those who were oppressed
  • Proclaim acceptable year of the Lord = dektos year = most blessed time when salvation and free favours of God profusely abound! Much more than any and all challenges faced this year

John = Baptism unto repentance, for people who cannot keep the law
Jesus = God's grace, so full of God’s supply He says "come and take!”. No demands/conditions placed on you

We hate sin because it's destructive, damages lives and even people’s personalities even change bcos of it. But we're more confident of God's grace!
Jesus never put any demand on anyone. Almost as if He never marked their sin / ignored it. But that’s bcos He knew that it’s this goodness that leads people to repentance (Romans 2:4)
-----

1917+50+50 = 2017! Looks like something exciting is going to happen this year.
No one knows the day or time of the rapture. But the times and seasons, we know.

Whatever you need, God is proclaiming liberty to you this year. He won't force jubilee unto you / your family unless you receive, but there are things you can do to help you receive.

3 keys for the victory / to walk in God's freedom / to receive:

Key 1) Rest
Jubilee trumpet is sounded on the day of atonement (Lev 25:10)

Lev 23:28-32
On day of atonement, no work is to be done.
Doesn’t mean literally don’t do work / resign, but to lead the let go life.
Spiritual sense of don't need to work to get health, ur child / something back etc.
It's the attitude that this battle is the Lord's, not mine. I will not stress or be anxious about it.
Which of u by worrying can add one cubit to ur height. Lilies of field, birds of air (Matt 6:27)

Devil will say hey, you're being irresponsible by not doing anything
But ur reply is to be, "if God doesn't do anything, what can I do? God's hand is much bigger than mine"

V30 If don't rest, will die = how serious God is about not working
V31 Do no manner of work
V32 Sabbath of rest. Your souls (mind, emotions, will) will be afflicted bcos ur soul wants to do something

If you want to do something, do this… Key 2.

Key 2) Listen to messages about the finished work of Jesus and don't say anything
While going round walls of Jericho, they were to say nothing but listen to the ram's horn
Ram’s horn = proclamation of the Lord's death which is our guarantee of healing, provision, protection
Blowing ram’s horn = preaching about Jesus, cross, liberty

Brass = judgement
Blowing brass trumpet = sermons on God’s judgement

Power of God takes u out of the situation
Wisdom of God causes you to triumph while u are in the situation
Both ways, you are victorious and people see the greatness of your God

Gal 3:5
Supplies = continuous tense (keeps on supplying the Spirit)
Works miracles = continuous tense (keeps on working miracles)

The more you hear (the ram’s horn), the more God supplies & works miracles in your life

Acts 14:7-10
Crippled man had faith to be healed after/while hearing Paul preach the Gospel (not the law or motivational talk), then he leaped and walked
Things happen when you listen to God's word / blowing of ram’s horn
Just keep resting (key 1) and keep listening (key 2) and you will leap out of your situation

V9 heard = imperfect tense = kept on keeping on hearing Paul preach

Let us keep on keeping on hearing bcos that's how faith comes. Not look inward and try and conjure up faith.
It’s okay to enjoy other things once in a while (e.g. K dramas, sports etc) but there’s no power in that. There’s power in hearing the rams’ horn!

Key 3) Flow with the Spirit
Hebrew word for Jubilee = Jubal (“you-val”) = ram’s horn
Root word = flow, river (like music / when writing songs)

Spirit will lead you (e.g. tell you when to stop eating, to eat smth your body lacks, lead you which university, who to marry etc)
Spirit will never tell you to divorce, con, tell lies, flirt with other people
Leading is not instant but pray that the area that God wants u to go towards will grow and grow, and the one He doesn't want u to go to will shrink like no peace there

Heb 4:9-11
Our assignment this year = labour to labour into rest. Labour not to labour (inward, not outward occupation)

Devil will say, “do smth! you’re being irresponsible!”
Your response is, “yes, i'm doing smth. I’m labouring into rest. The battle is the Lord’s"

How to labour into rest?
V12 for = because
Quick = not fast, but living / quicken / to make alive = zao
Sharper than 2 edged sword = laser

God’s word has spiritual effect - separate soul and spirit
Soul = emotions, mind, body
Spirit = the real me
Sometimes we ask “Is this me? Is this God?”. What we really mean is “Is this from my soul? Is this from the Spirit?”
Listen to the Word of God. It will separate and you will know what's God and what's you

God’s word has physical effect - separate joints and marrow
God’s word can touch the areas where even doctors don't dare to touch bcos it's too close.
God can separate that which is indivisible.
Listening to God’s word also gives supernatural rest. His Shalom.

Be like the temple of God. 3 parts -
Outer court = very busy place = body
Inner court = quieter = soul
Holy of holies where God dwells is the source of power = perfect peace, Shalom = spirit

Jubilee is a visual aid of Jesus the substance. Where Jesus is there is Jubilee.

(22 May 2016)

Pastor Mark (3rd service live)

Relationships / making connections with people in life is very important
Who do you connect / hang out with?
When you encounter Jesus, your life transforms bcos Grace is the antidote to sin
Eg. Zacchaeus the tax collector met & connected with Jesus and become the most generous person

I am not ashamed of the Gospel bcos it is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16)
To save you from every problem in your life
The Gospel is able to deliver us from all problems

2 Cor 5:21
We were made the righteousness of God in Christ
We were made (Ie. we were on the receiving end and our part is passive), and so no action of ours can un-make us
There's no way to un-make your righteousness bcos you didn't make yourself righteous in the first place
Just live by faith believing that you are still the righteousness of God in Christ bcos that's what God's word says about you

God defines me not by my actions and deeds but by His Son, bcos as Christ is, so am I (1 John 4:17)
We are not measured by what good deeds we do, but by the Grace we receive
Not how much I do, but how much I receive

Amos 3:3
To walk with God means to agree with Him
Homologeo = say the same thing as what Jesus says about you!
You are righteous, you are healed, you are beautiful!

2 Cor 5:17
When we are in Christ, we become new creations
We're a spirt. The real us is a spirit. The body is just a shell.
So changing your outside (eg. doing good works) doesn't change the real you on the inside
How to change the real you? Since we're a spirit, we must be transformed spiritually - by death on the cross and by receiving Jesus
Similarly, when we receive Jesus inside, the inside has changed but the outside may still look the same. Be patient. Inside is the real you. Eventually the outside will change to reflect the real you that's inside.

The Lord's prayer (Matt 6:9-13)
Life like heaven on earth is possible when we first receive from Christ

Isaiah 61:1-3
All these are fruits / results
1) Good tidings to the poor
God doesn't want His children to be poor
We as imperfect parents don't want our children to be poor. How much more our Father in heaven (Matt 7:11)

The Bible has numerous promises of provision
Eg. Ps 23:1 The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not lack
Eg. Phil 4:19 My God shall supply all your needs

2) Heal the broken hearted

3) Proclaim liberty to the captives
Includes being captive by anger, worry
We don't want to be angry or worry, but on our own effort we can't get out of it
Only our Lord can get us out and He proclaims our freedom from these things

4) Open prison to those bound
Includes those bound by disease

V2 acceptable year of the Lord is proclaimed first, vengeance of the Lord comes later after the rapture / during tribulation. But for now, we're in the acceptable year!

V2-3 the good news proclaimed is

I) Comfort all who mourn

II) Give us beauty for ashes
Ashes = our background / history, the bad words we said or bad things we did which we cannot take back

III) Oil of joy for mourning

IV) Garment of praise for spirit of heaviness
Don't complain that life is unfair or that your family is not perfect
All families have their own share of problems / are imperfect bcos when 2 imperfect pple come together, there can't and won't be perfection
We tend to project what our earthly father / mother are like unto what our heavenly Father is like. Don't do that.
(Me: To see what our heavenly Father is like, see what Jesus is like in the Scriptures bcos whoever has seen Jesus has seen the Father (John 14:7,9))
It took Pastor Mark 2-3 years to accept that God is his Father bcos of his family upbringing

We are connected to the most important family in this universe - the family of God

Unfairness is all around in this world - parents, spouse, boss, family, wealth, background etc
We're not here to compare bcos then we will never be happy
If you want to compare, look to Jesus who is unfairly good to you & who died for you when He didn't deserve to
Jesus took the phrase, "Why me?" on the cross when He cried "Abba, why have you forsaken me?" so that now we cry "Abba, why are you so good to me?"

When we fail, our heavenly Father will never leave us (Deut 31:6)
When we feel insecure or loss, we can run to our heavenly Father who makes us whole

Greatest possession to possess in this year of POP is household blessings / salvation of our loved ones
Don't forget your parents & grandparents too

How to receive the breakthrough / fruits of 1-4 above?

V3 trees of righteousness planted by God that He may be glorified
Know your identity first = you are righteous in Christ Ie. clean not shameful
Why not tree of wealth or health? Bcos if you're wealthy and healthy but feel condemned, you'll lose it all anyway
As a tree of righteousness, you will bear fruit in everything

Who plants you? The Lord
For what purpose? That He may be glorified

God sees us as trees
What does a tree do? Nothing, it just stands still and is rooted

Tree rooted in grace = soak yourself in messages of grace
Trees don't grow overnight
Similarly, don't give up. Be patient and just keep soaking in the Word even if your actions continue to be incorrect / circumstances don't seem to have changed.

The only way to grow in the Christian life is to grow in grace
To know you're righteous - that's growing

Say what God says about you. Agree with Him!

Speak to cholesterol, blood pressure, excess fats be gone in Jesus' name!

The just shall live by faith (Heb 10:38)

Jeremiah 17:7-8
Will not fear, will not be anxious, will yield fruit

Romans 10:10-11
Whoever believes on Him as your righteousness, will not be put to shame

Grace will never reject you

The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter (Prov 4:18)

Sunday, 8 May 2016

(8 May 2016)

Pastor Joseph Prince (1st service live)

(2nd svc was also live and seems like that was the "selected" service for playback. Content still largely the same)

Sermon proper
How to rightly divide the word
Which part is law, which part is grace?
It's not always OT law, NT grace
Many OT laws actually represent NT truths
Eg. Do not mix wool (self effort) and linen (righteousness of God)

How did Jesus teach the OT
Luke 24:27
V25 All discouragement comes from lack of belief
V27 Books of Moses = first 5 books of OT
Prophets = Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel etc
Didn't talk about Psalms bcos they reached the destination

Even in the law, He taught the things concerning Himself

Eg. Jesus in the offerings
Fine flour used only in the meal / grain offering
Fine = bcos in Jesus there's perfect balance, He's  altogether lovely, no uneveness about Him; never has to retract a statement, never too aggressive or too mild etc
Frankincense on top of the offering = smells very nice when burnt = His every thought / word / deed exudes a fragrance to God
Oil on frankincense = anointed of God

1 thick bread = 30 years of Jesus unseen by men but seen in His totality by God
1 thin bread = 3.5 years of Jesus seen by men, but men only sees Him partially / doesn't esteem Him fully

Luke 24:44
Now He has time to talk about Psalms and again it is about Him
Ps 1 is about Jesus
Ps 22 is also about Jesus when He cried on the cross

-----
You never know how much God loves u until u know how much God loves Jesus
When u find Him, u find u! Bcos as Jesus is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17)
-----

Importance of rightly dividing the word
2 Tim 2:15
If u don't rightly divide, u'll be a workman who will be ashamed
Different applications - law is for the proud and grace for the broken hearted (Martin Luther)
Law is Holy but it can't make men Holy

Dispensation truths
(Also talked about in last week's sermon)

In every dispensation, there is a change in God's way of treating man
And in every dispensation, man is tested & man fails
Purpose of all the dispensations is to show that man needs God
It's not right to apply everything today; important to find out which dispensation we're in and the truths of it that apply to us today

1. Innocence = Adam & Eve

2. Conscience = everyone lives by the knowledge of right and wrong / morality teaching

People ended up doing the right things but for the wrong reasons
Eg. Don't commit adultery, but never love wife
Eg. Don't covert, but never give

All flesh was corrupted / wickedness of man and evil intentions of the heart (Gen 6:5,12)

Heb 10:22
Afraid of going to God =  evil conscience
Know that the blood of Jesus gives you the right to be there in God's presence

God chose Noah

3. Human Government
Tower of babble was to contact power of darkness
Recap stars and story of Jesus written in the stars (21 Feb 2002 sermon)
Ended with man scattered

God chose Abraham

4. Promise
There were unconditional promises that depended only on God (eg. land)
And there were also conditional promises that depended on man's behavior

Ended in bondage in Egypt. Why?
They were not supposed to worship other gods but they did (ie. idolatry)
All 10 plagues were to judge the idols
Eg. Plague 2 frogs = bcos they worshipped frogs
Eg. Plague 9 darkness = bcos they worshipped the sun

Recall that children of Israel still worshipped other gods but nobody died until Sinai when law was given

5. Law
Once law given, this is when they started dying
It's a picture of all mankind being unable to keep the law, not just Jews

Recap Nebuchadnezzar's dream / statue sermon
Feet of gentiles = democracy rule
Not a dispensation, but time of gentiles

How to use the law lawfully / correctly
1 Tim 1:8-11
Law is not made for a righteous person (= those who are justified by faith)
Law is made for the lawless, sinners, unholy, murderers, ... etc
Ie. we still need the law to govern others; like in society / police laws
But there is no heart transformation, only behavior modification so as not to violate law outwardly

Law given to sinners to let them know they're sinners

What happens if we use the law on the righteous
Romans 7:1-3, 4-19
Illustration (V1-3) then application (V4-19)

V5 sinful passions r aroused by the law
When u forbid something, u stir it up in the flesh

V6 delivered from the law = delivered from the 10 commandments law (from v7 context)
Dead to law but now governed by His spirit; not dead to law and free reign!

V8 apart from the law, sin was dead

We are not perfect. Stumbling, but stumbling upwards!

V9 death includes sickness. Bcos sickness is the beginning of death

V18 I want to do good
The moment you say you want to do smth nice, your will is present and sincere, but that's the day you'll likely do worse than intended
Why? Nothing wrong with the law

There is nothing wrong with the law. He is perfect, but too perfect for the bride. Compared to Grace who fulfils everything He demands.

Jews believe that they're married to the law at Sinai, so they can't go to Jesus bcos that's adultery
The only legal ground for us to leave the law is for either party to die - either law dies or we die
But the law can't die. So Jesus provides the death for us to die in Christ (and hence die to the law) and then married to another who is the resurrected & glorious one!
Not that we put aside the law, but that we're dead to it
And not that we're just dead to the law and free reign to do anything, but that we're dead to the law AND NOW MARRIED TO GRACE / JESUS.

For what purpose? For bearing fruit
There won't be fruit in ur life until u know that u're dead to the law

-----
Like Ruth and Boaz
Ruth = by law, she's a moabite and she cannot enter the kingdom, but she ended up in the line of Jesus; what law cannot, Grace can
Un-named man closer to Ruth than Boaz = unbending & cannot save Ruth; picture of law
Boaz = richest man who redeemed Ruth; picture of Jesus
-----

Now that we're married to Grace, if the law asks us to do this or do that, tell it to go do it itself. We're married to Grace now and take orders from Him.
Even if we feel strong from having been in the presence of Grace, there's still no need to go back and try and please the law. Doing that is spiritual adultery.
Demands of the law no longer have a hold on us.

Law must come first for us to see our need
Sometimes must get lost first to be found / saved later

Justification is by faith. Sanctification is also by faith

Acts 15:5-11
V7 referring to when Peter preached at Cornelius' house in Acts 10
gentiles = Cornelius and family
V9 hearts are purified by faith
V10 yoke = law

Holy Spirit fell, purifying their hearts by faith, when Peter was preaching Grace (Acts 10)

End of law dispensation = Jesus fulfilling the law

-----
Likely that Cornelius is the centurion at the foot of the cross who said "truly this Man was the Son of God"
Why?
Army at the foot of the cross is the army from Caesarea who would follow pontius pilate when he needed to hear a trial. This army would also be the one that carried out the verdicts of pontius pilate.
Few years later, Peter went to Caesarea to the house of Cornelius who happens to also be a centurion (Acts 10)
-----

6. Grace
Eph 3:2-3
Church age started, but church was a mystery hidden only to be revealed later

Bride of heros of bible = picture of the church = Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Ruth

OT prophets saw second coming and first coming as together cos they saw from far
Like seeing 2 mountains from far - they look close and even look like the same mountain until we are nearer

In grace dispensation, God doesn't demand. He gives righteousness to man
Don't mix the dispensations

Previously = repent / confess first before u're forgiven
Now = goodness of God leads me to repentance, and I confess bcos I am forgiven

Eph 4:32
God in Christ forgave us = past tense
We forgive others bcos we've been forgiven
We don't forgive others bcos we don't have a revelation of ourselves being forgiven

1 John 4:10, 19
V10 definition of love
But greatest commandment is that we love God with all our heart, soul & strength (Deut 6:5)
Ie. Know tt u can't possibly keep that commandment to love God with all your heart, soul & strength. And now watch Me love u with all My heart, soul & strength

V19 and now we can fulfil the law bcos He first loved us

We've been in this grace dispensation for > 2000 years; shows that grace is what's in God's heart

But even then, this will end in man's failure & lawlessness will come

End of grace dispensation = rapture followed by 7 years of tribulation

7. Kingdom
Then we will return with Jesus and that's millennial & Kingdom rule.
But even then, it will also end in man's failure

Eph 2:4-7
V7 in ages to come / even after the 7 dispensations, there's still exceeding grace to come

Grace still goes on!

Sunday, 1 May 2016

(1 May 2016)

Pastor Joseph Prince (4th service on 1st service playback)

Recap last week
Gen 18:1-33
A picture of God at Abraham's house - eating, fellowshipping, some family jokes (about Sarah laughing)
God eats with them, celebrates with them and gives them the news they want (that they will have a child)

That's how God wants our family to be like = homely, warm, intimate, joyful and with God in the midst

Sermon proper
Theme 1: Understanding God's nature

Micah 6:8
To do justice, love mercy & walk humbly with God
"Do justice" not "love justice"
Especially for leaders

God's nature is not to judge
His heart loves mercy = hesed = grace

There's a difference between being familiar vs being intimate with God
12 disciples walked with Jesus and were familiar with Him, but not all were intimate with Him
vs syrophoenician woman and centurion who didn't walk with Jesus everyday, but who knew His heart

2 Peter 3:9
God is long suffering, not willing that any should perish
There are people who perish, but God is not willing. Why doesn't God just "grab" them? Bcos God respects the free choice He has given to man
He wants to gather them like a mother hen gathers her chicks, but they were not willing (Luke 13:34)
Ie. It's a choice

Example of God's long suffering: during the time of the flood
Methuselah = his name means "death will bring". i.e. when he dies, the flood will come, and he was the longest living man on earth at 969 years
Why? Bcos God is not willing that any should perish and wants to drag for as long as possible
That's the heart of God - a long suffering heart

Similarly, God wants to delay the rapture & second coming for as long as possible
Why? Bcos he's waiting for more pple to be saved

There are those who will be raptured like Enoch, and then those who are saved in the judgement
Delivered but will go through the flood, and there's protection for them still

Every born again person goes up. Regardless of faithfulness

Needed for every marriage = long suffering
Love is patient = love is long suffering

Theme 2: Continuing last week's sermon

Angels can turn into the form of man
Some have entertained them and not aware (Heb 13:2)

Gen 18:20-33
2 Angels went to Sodom
Jesus stayed with Abraham in Hebron which is a mountain higher up but possible to look down and see Sodom from there

-----
Recall how Lot ended up in Sodom
Gen 13 & 14
Abraham let Lot choose where to go to split ways bcos there were too many of them and the there was strife among the herdsmen
Lot chose Sodom because it looked like the garden of Eden. Lot chose by sight
Later, Abraham rescued Lot when Lot was taken captive in the war
Abraham tithed to Melchizedek after the victory; no record of Lot tithing
Then Lot went back to Sodom
-----

2 Peter 2:6-8
Lot is righteous, and God emphasises it 3 times in 2 verses
But he is a defeated righteous man - he had a family but lost it all except 2 daughters, and ended up in wrong relationships with them
Watching and living in filth, and a leader amongst them. But he's still righteous, bcos righteousness is by faith not works

Compared with Abraham who is a victorious righteous man

Abraham = in Hebron (heaven), looking down at the judgement and knew about it long before Sodom knew
Lot = in the destruction, but still protected

-----
The 7 dispensations
Dispensations = the way God treats man; God testing man to show that man needs God

  1. Innocence = ended with the fall of Adam
  2. Conscience = ended with the flood (Noah)
  3. Human government = ended in idolatry
  4. Promise = started with the promise God gave to Abraham (that in him all nations will be blessed not just Israel); ended with man boasting in self efforts / inventions and forgetting God & law being given
  5. Law = ended with man's inability to keep the law / God finding fault with the law as too severe
  6. Grace = ends with the rapture <-- we're here now
  7. Kingdom = 1000 year millennia rule / return of the King. There will be perfect rule on earth with Jesus visibly ruling. Faith becomes sight. Devil is bound, can't blame him. Everything is perfect (family, health, finances etc). Like Garden of Eden conditions without lack. Also no more excuse of unbelief, but this will still end in rebellion and man's failure.

Every dispensation ends in failure of man & man blaming God for it. That's the whole point - to show man up; that we need God desperately / in and off ourselves, we cannot

Watch that with everything we have through grace, we don't fall into greediness and materialism
Like church of laodicea vs philadelphia
-----

Gen 18:20-33

V17 Shall I hide from Abraham what I'm doing
But Abraham is called friend of God (James 2:23)
And as friend of God, Jesus tells Abraham all things that He hears from the Father even before it happens (John 15:15)
Likewise for us

V23 Abraham came near
God wanted someone to intercede
If God wanted justice, He would have gone straight to Sodom, without telling Abraham, but He knew Abraham would pray!

Example: Jonah's case
Jonah 4:1-5
Jonah was very reluctant & unwilling to preach to Nineveh. Shortest sermon even (Jonah 3:4)
Bcos he knew God's nature - gracious, merciful, slow to anger, abundant in loving kindness

(Also see above on God's nature)

V25 righteous man referred here is Lot

V32 Why did Abraham stop at 10 and not go to 1?
Lot's family:
At least 2 son-in-laws + 2 daughters
At least 2 sons
At least 2 unmarried daughters
Plus Lot and his wife
= Total 10
Abraham had a purpose

Why is it important to study the destruction of Sodom? Bcos as it was in the days of Lot, Jesus will be revealed (Luke 17:28); Sign of last days

Gen 19:1-38
V1 Lot was sitting in the gate
Ie. Lot was an established man in the world / worldliness
The effects of the blessings of the righteous were still on him
Like how Jews today still enjoy the remnant blessings of Abraham even though they don't believe in Jesus yet

V1 Bowed with face to the ground = has heart, but not totally bcos compared to Abraham, Abraham bowed totally prostrate to the ground

V1 Angels only. Jesus was not there = Jesus is not at home with Lot

(Me: V1 rose to meet them = compared to Abraham who ran to meet them
V2 rise early and go on your way = almost like can't wait for them to go)

V2&3 Angels didn't want to stay in Lot's house & preferred to stay outside in the open square but Lot insisted
Compared to at Abraham's side where they stayed in his house and had a warm gathering even

V3 unleavened bread without the shedding of blood
Compared to at Abraham's side bread and calf (i.e. bread plus shedding of blood)

-----
Recall Joseph interpreting dreams (Gen 40)
Bread alone = something bad = Jesus is a good man, but nothing about His sacrifice
Wine alone = something bad = … ?
Must be bread and wine together = Melchizedek with bread and wine and Abraham responding with the tithe

Exodus 12:8-9
Do not eat raw nor boiled with water
Raw / boiled with water = fire didn't touch it = Jesus died as a martyr, not receiving the judgement of God = the sacrifice never took our judgement / our sins have not been punished

But our sins have been punished in Jesus our sacrifice, so there must be fire
And if God punishes us now, that's unholy
God is righteous by making us righteous bcos it has already been paid for at the cross by Jesus
God is righteous by not remembering our sins now, because He remembered them on the cross
Like Jesus died this morning
-----

V8 How far Lot has fallen that he will offer up his daughters
Lot is righteous but defeated bcos he compromised

Just bcos you hear the grace message doesn't mean that you are under grace
If you are under grace, sin has no dominion over you (Romans 6:14)
Ie. If you have a lifestyle of sin (eg. adultery), that means sin has dominion over you and you are not under grace.
Don't bring grace into it. Be a man and take responsibility.
We don't condemn you, but we condemn your actions

V10 men = angels

V14 son-in-laws thought Lot was joking
Talk / drink / act like them such that when you try to talk to them about the rapture / want to be serious, nobody believes bcos you've lost your influence & credibility

V16 Lot lingered & angels had to hold his hand
Here is the Lord being merciful to him. God is so slow to judge, even helping and holding his hand to force him out

V17 the mountains = where Abraham was

V18&19 Lot didn't want to go to the mountains and didn't believe that it was safe there. He wanted to choose where to go

V19 Increased your mercy = first mention of hesed

3 things about Lot:
  1. Lot never tithed
  2. Lot never focused on the blood
  3. His name means "a veil" = law (2 Cor 3:13-14)

We are delivered from the law to be governed by the Spirit. If someone is under law, it manifests by lust. (Romans 7:5-6 ?)

V21 Lot saved the city Zoar bcos he chose to flee to it
Ie. A defeated righteous man can still have his prayers answered and can still bring blessings to others

V22 I cannot... until you're safely away

V26 professing Christian
She looked back bcos she lived that life too long

V27 Abraham went back to the place where he was negotiating with God

V28 What we'll see up there, looking down

V29 God remembered Abraham
Thank God for people who are praying/prayed for us!
God remembers our prayers prayed in Jesus' name and this saves people

V30 Lot chose Zoar instead of the mountains the angels told him to go to. But now he is restless / unhappy at Zoar
Mountains here is not Hebron where Abraham was at
(Me: Better to follow what/where God tells you to do/go)

V34 where did the daughters learn this from?
Be careful what your children are watching

Parents are kings and priests over the house
Speak normally / calmly and trust that God gives weight to your words. God is on ur side
There's no need to raise your voice / shout / yell. If u do that, you've lost control. Don't lose control.
But do speak up and restrict. Don't keep quiet
Even if children go, trust that your words have power and glory

V37 Moab = from here came the Moabites (Ruth)
V38 Ben-Ammi = from here came the Ammonites
These were difficult people for Israel later on

That's the end of the story of Lot. No more mention of him and we don't know what happened after all this.

-----
Hebrews 9:28 NLT & AMP versions
Second coming of Christ is not to deal with our sins
Salvation = of our bodies
To those who are eagerly and confidently waiting for Him = us
-----

Be like righteous Abraham, unafraid of the judgement that's so close! And just enjoying the fatness of fellowship with Jesus
But pray for others that their conscious be purged from sin with Jesus (Hebrews 10:2)

God will delay for us to pray

We lead a victorious life, not for our glory, but for the glory of Jesus

Closing prayer
(Me: I especially love this week's closing prayer!!)

The Lord bless you with the blessings of Father Abraham. The Lord bless you with the blessings of Deut 28. Even as He has blessed you with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. You are blessed, you are blessed, you are blessed. And the Lord preserve, protect and keep you and your loved ones throughout this week from all manner of evil. The Lord deliver you from every evil work and preserve you unto His heavenly Kingdom.

The Lord give you grace never to go down from the mountain of fellowship. The Lord give you grace never to be like a Lot. God give you grace to bring your family with dignity and honour, not legalistically, not in a domineering way, but with power in your words.

Father, in the name of Jesus, grant power, irresistible power that does not have to be yelled out but spoken in quietness, with firmness with love to all the parents here. Be it not spoken word or written word.

The Lord preserve everyone throughout this week from every sickness, from every disease, from every accidents, and dangers and harms and from all the powers of darkness. The Lord grant to you and your family a blessed blessed family life. A family like Abraham's family where there's laughter and God speaking to you intimately, where there's no sin consciousness, only Jesus consciousness.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sunday, 24 April 2016

(24 April 2016)

Pastor Joseph Prince (4th service on 1st service playback)

(There was quite a bit of side-track / "free stuff" especially at the beginning which I have omitted. Most of it was a recap of the past weeks' sermons. Eg. about the supernatural light, about parents' authority over children, about husbands not leaving your wives & children in 'Egypt'.)

Sermon proper
Secrets to family well being

Gen 18:1-33
The Lord came to visit Abraham

What was Abraham doing? Sitting ... in the heat of the day
Heat of the day = troubles, pressures etc
Don't run around, sit down in the heat of the day and wait for the Lord. Trust in Him.
Even youths will faint, be weary & fall, but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:30)

Mamre (= fatness) is in Hebron (= fellowship) = fatness of fellowship
Hebron is the mountain where Caleb said, "give me this mountain" = fellowship mountain
Satan always wants you to fellowship with friends, TV, K-drama / romantic fake world etc bos all of that are useless. Only fellowship with Jesus is real and with Him all things are possible
Satan doesn't want you to have all things possible

Gen 19:1
In contrast, Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom
Elders sit at the gates, which means that Lot was a distinguished man in the world that was going to destruction
(Next week's sermon?)

V2 He lifted his eyes and looked = a special kind of look

3 people = 2 angles and 1 is Jesus pre-incarnate, before coming as a man
These angels later went to Sodom
How do we know it's Jesus? Bcos Abraham called Him "my Lord" = Adonai, used only for the Lord Jesus
Not "my lord" = adon, used for horizontal relationships between men

When he saw them he ran & bowed himself to the ground = worship (first time worship is mentioned)

What happens to those who see Jesus? They shall run and not be weary (Isaiah 40:31)
Example 1: Abraham ran. He was 99+ by this time
Example 2: Emmaus road couple walked 7x2 miles (= 22km) journey (Luke 24:13-32)

Just bcos you are old doesn't mean you are frail or weak. We advance in age, yes, but we stay strong.

V10 certainly return = shub = restoration = certainly restore

V12 shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also
Sarah is 89+ at this time
She said, "shall I have pleasure", not "shall I have a child?". Ie she was focused on pleasure, not child.
It is in pleasure with the Lord that a miracle is birthed
Don't make having a child an idol. Focus on our Lord. The result/child is the promise

V12 laughed within herself
Sarah had a genuine respect for her husband to call him "my lord". She wasn't saying it for the benefit of Abraham's ears
And later, her youth was renewed so much that 2 kings wanted her. God beautified her. That's the secret

1 Peter 3:4-6 (NLT)

V3 adorning shouldn't be in outward things
U can do it, but don't trust in it
Adorn = make themselves beautiful

V4 a gentle and quiet spirit is very precious in the sight of God
Quiet doesn't mean never talk, but talking from a quiet & cool spirit

V5 trusted in God, not trusted in husband to fulfil
Ie. believe that God can and will show your husband
Ie. believe you won't be abused or taken advantage of
We can trust God bcos He is above our husband

Sarah's secret on how to beautify selves:
  1. Trust God
  2. Accept authority of husband
V6 not afraid with any terror
Ie. No fearful that husband will take advantage / terrorise them

Differences in roles doesn't mean inequality

Wrt family life, man/husband is the one God holds accountable
Man, not saying anything is still a decision
Letting wife make a decision, is also considered a decision, and whatever the outcome, you are still responsible for it
Adam exercised leadership even when he didn't speak up at the garden
Keeping quiet and abdicating from making a decision is still considered a choice / decision made

Woman, there is a time to speak up. Not that wife cannot speak up, but ultimately man is the head.
Does it mean wife must always gives in? No. If there is good reason, bring it up.
Example: Sarah told Abraham to cast out the bond woman and Galatians quoted her and said what Sarah said is Scripture (Gal 4:30)

Fruit that we want is the respect of our wife
This comes naturally when your wife sees that you have a genuine relationship with the Lord

Gen 18:17-19
Many people read this as, if family is in order / no trouble, only then God brings to pass the promise of Abraham being a great nation with descendents like stars and sand
But no, read carefully

V19
I have known him = past tense = loved, chosen
In order that = future tense
Ie. I have chosen you, not bcos you already have your family in order, but it is because I have chosen you that your family will be in order

Also, V19 says "children", but at this time Abraham only had one child (Ishmael). Isaac wasn't born yet. Which is why we know V19 is talking about the future.

-----
Parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)
Father = God the Father
Son that left the house = Gentiles
Son that stayed but selfrighteous = Jews

Success rate of the father = 0% <-- Even though the father (who typifies God the Father) was a good father!
Not 50%, bcos 1 was rebellious and 1 stayed but with no heart
This is especially to encourage families where you're a good father. Don't be condemned!

When a rebellious child comes home, they have an empty space that wasn't there previously and which grace couldn't have filled previously bcos there was no space. But now, because of Grace, they will outrun the case of if they had never left.

So parents, just wait a while, some pig pen experiences are good
-----

V17 shall I hide from Abraham what I'm doing?
It's concerning the Sodom issue
Sodom was very near to where Abraham was. Like in his backyard.
Yet Abraham could still live in the fatness of fellowship with God and all of God's blessings could still be upon Abraham
Similarly for us in this generation now where darkness in the world is so close to us too, like in our backyard, but our fellowship with God is unhindered

-----
Me: Abraham was not participating in the practices of Sodom even though it was nearby
Recap there are consequences to actions
-----

Only on the day Lot left Sodom, then God reigned fire on it (Gen 19:22-24)

There are consequences in this world, but it's not tribulation

To be continued next week...
